Your Co-op

A business run by volunteers and/or paid workers who are also owners of the store. Membership may cost money, volunteer hours, or both but comes with perks such as an across the board discount on merchandise. The beauty of these stores is that they are non-profit; surpluses are shared among the members and workers who also vote on issues concerning the co-op. Since these stores are small and independent they create community, and funnel money back to the local farmers and processors, creating more jobs. The product emphasis is on organic, natural, and healthful food rather than processed products with a high profit margin. These organizations really care about the well being of the communities they serve!
